Ben Groom
Dragon Capital Chair in Biodiversity Economics at the University of Exeter
Ben is an applied economist whose main research focus is on biodiversity and climate change economics. A large part of his research concerns the valuation of carbon removals in terms of the climate and ecosystem damages avoided. He works on biodiversity measurement and valuation, and the thorny issue of intergenerational equity and social discounting for long-term public projects. This research agenda tries to shift policy and guidance on climate change and biodiversity conservation. Ben was appointed as the Dragon Capital Chair in Biodiversity Economics at the University of Exeter in 2020. He is a visiting Professor at the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics.
